Monthly Wrap-Up: February 2018

Hello, everyone! Just wanted to do a brief wrap-up for the month of February. I’m still working out f how I’d like this to be moving forward but I figured we’d give it a try and see how it evolves over time.

At the beginning of the year, I had set a goal for myself to reach 80,000 words in my first novel by February 28th. Essentially it would be my first draft of the book and it seemed to be an attainable goal considering I had at that point managed to write 35,000. If I kept on track with how much I was writing, cake. What I failed to take into account was the amount of overtime I was required to work at my day job for a few weeks straight. That being said, as I’m writing this blog post, the word count for the novel stands at 50,496. Clearly, that’s not 80k. However! I did work on other projects and developed consistency with this blog while working my day job, managing social media account, filming and editing promo videos, and managing to have fun in order to keep me sane. All things considered, I’m going to call it a win. Also, the story roadblocks I ran into with “The Abandoned Isle” have been addressed and progress will certainly follow.

Writing aside, this month was fantastic for me on a personal level. I had really been struggling with my decision to walk away from the development of the television show and its “consequences” since I made it at the end of last year despite knowing in my heart that it was the right one but in February, I felt like I could breathe. I spent quality time with my friends and connected more with what makes me smile including watching movies or television shows which I was hardly doing at all previously, reading more, devouring more TED Talks and documentaries, and quite frankly, allowing myself to be honest with myself about my struggles and my growth. I know the latter part doesn’t sound appealing but give it a try. I’m still working on it and I will undoubtedly be working on it for the rest of my life but remember, that’s because we are always growing, always expanding.

I want to say thank you to everyone who has visited this site in February, its first full month up, and to everyone who has provided me with encouragement both online and off. Words cannot describe how appreciative I am of you.

Now I want to turn it over to you. What do you want to see from me in March or the months to follow? More personal blogs, more about writing and creativity, more film related posts? Let me know in the comments below. I look forward to continuing this with all of you!
